You should also research what type of promotional marketing they are doing for the site, like are they using affiliate programs, banner advertising, article marketing, and pay per click advertising.

Use this information to make your websites perform better, get more traffic and convert more sales. And while to cannot actually copy any of the information that is on the sites that you research, you can mimic the marketing strategies that are being used and try to emulate them to reach the level of success you are looking for.
